Evaggelos Vallianatos was born and raised in Kephalonia, Greece. He
went to college in the United States where he received a BA in zoology at
the University of Illinois; MA in medieval Greek history at the University
of Illinois, and a Ph.D. in Greek history at the University of Wisconsin.
He did post doctoral studies in the history of science and international
development at Harvard. He worked for the Congressional Office of
Technology Assessment; the office of Congressman Clarence Long of Maryland;
and the US Environmental Protection Agency from which he retired in 2004.
In 1995-1996, he served as an advisor on sustainable development theory at
the United Nations Development Programme. He also taught at various
universities. He is the author of 5 books and dozens of articles. His chief
interests include Greek history and global environmental and agrarian
issues. Evaggelos is Married to Crista Vallianatos and has two grown children, Mark and Corinna.
